As a comprehensive public library and one of the first public libraries at the city level in Shandong province, Zibo Library was founded in November 1953 in Fangongci, Boshan district, Zibo and moved to 10, Gongqingtuan road, Zhangdian district in September, 1976 and eventually to 437, Liantong Road, Zhangdian District in November 2015. We are now a national first-class library and a National Key Protection Unit for Ancient Books.
There are ten divisions in this library: Journals Division, Special Documents Division, Lending Division, Children’s Division, Reception Division, Reading Extension Division, IT Division, Counseling & Research Divison, Acquisition & Cataloging Center, and General Office. We now have 56 permanent staff members, of which 95% are at least colleage graduates and 60% are with middle or high professional titles.
Our new library, covering an area of 23800m2, is a landmark building embodying historical culture and modern taste of the city. All library facilities were updated and thus automation, intelligentialization, networking and digitization of library services have been achieved. In operation management and services, self-services in library card issuing, book search and book lending have been achieved by integrating the Interlib Intelligent Library Management System and IFID related equipments. Modern equipment including Electronic Touch Screen Journals Reading System, Electronic Book Lending Machine is available in this library. Free wifi covers all the service area. In addition, the Mobile Library enables you to enjoy our public culture services at anytime and any place.
For 60 years, based on the tenet of Readers First and Service Supreme, we’ve been strengthenning book collections, prolonging service hours, and improving the level of service. The number of our library card holders is increasing year by year and the circulation rate of books and periodicals is steadily improving too. In addition, we’ve been persisting in carrying out different activities for readers like public training and lectures, reading & recitation contests, writing activities and reading extension activities, and providing services like compiling thematic information, scientific research tracking, interlibrary loan etc.
There were 1,466,000 of different documents in our collection by the end of 2016, among which 994,000 are Chinese books, bound volume of journals and audio visual documents, over 449,000 are e-documents, and 23,000 are ancient books. In addition, abundant digital resources are available as well.
In the future, we’ll be devoting ourselves to buiding a knowledge and information center of the city, a school for lifelong education of citizens, a treasury of local documents, the head library and service centrum of the local libraries, as well as an elegant cultural leisure place for the people.
